Tips on How to Declutter Your Home by Muna wa Wanjiru
Emergency declutter is only an emergency stop-gap method but it does get the job done which is what you really want. Keep a hamper or a something like that handy in a place where you can get to it in a hurry. When you know that someone will drop by with only minutes to spare for you to clean up, dump everything in the hamper and whisk it away out of sight. The only problem is if you forget to empty the hamper somewhere after the first time you do this!
If you have young kids this tends to work especially well. Again you will need something like a hamper or an empty crate to declutter in. Every evening after playtime has come and just before it goes, make it a point to get together with your kids and put things away. Make it look like fun instead of a chore, and start at a young age. Most kids will like the idea of playing this game - you just need to be quick enough to catch them before they upend the whole thing again when they're done!
My sister used a plain wooden box which she then painted to resemble a pirate's treasure chest. This makes it more interesting for the kids to put things back into their very own treasure chest, and it helps to get rid of the daily clutter of toys. It can also be a relief not to have to keep picking up after the kids, or even to be constantly stepping or tripping over small items.
Using a screen is as good an emergency stop-gap method of declutter as just dumping everything into a hamper. If there's a corner of a room which you want to cover up, or which you just haven't had the time to declutter and you have company coming over, you can then place this screen in front of these items. Screens can be bought just about anywhere these days, and in many shapes, sizes and forms. You will also most likely be able to find a screen to match your décor.
With the advent of CD's and DVD's audio cassettes and video cassettes have gone the way of the dinosaur. The only problem is that many people are unwilling to part with their prized collections. They can have the same thing in either CD or DVD but they will still be unwilling to part with their treasured tapes. I have only one thing to say to you: These needs a declutter; Get rid of these!
Another thing that most people absolutely refuse to part with is their collection of old and ratty magazines. They stay under the coffee table gathering dust until there is no more room to keep them at which point they will be thrown out or stored elsewhere and room made for the new lot to come in! Or which is also very likely, they will be utilized as coasters in the event that you are in need of some.
